Savannah River Landing - New Construction Update

I posted a blog a few months back about the new development along the Savannah River called Savannah River Landing, a 54 acre project which will maintain the grid pattern and squares of Historic Savannah.

I ride by it every day on my way to the office, and the clearing looks to be almost complete. The plans call for two large up-scale hotels, office space, retails shops, galleries, condos, town homes, restaurants and single family homes along the river.

There will also be dual purpose units built, sort of loft-style living above work areas.

It appears it will be a real extension of downtown, preserving what has made Savannah a welcoming, friendly, easily traversed urban setting. The east side of Savannah will be totally transformed by this development, and areas that have fallen into disrepair will be re-vitalized.

This is an ambitious project and it will be interesting to watch the development take place in a huge effort to merge old and new into something that utilizes the strengths of both.
