My Small Real Estate Company in Savannah Ga
Tipping my hat to Kermit - It's not easy being small. In a way my company is an experiment in small in the age of the internet. Can a company with one broker and three agents compete with large companies with 50-100 agents?
Well, so far, so good. I haven't closed my doors. What I've done, and what I'm doing, is fighting with the sword of quality. I figure quality should have value, and if it is delivered consistently, should be noticed.
The internet levels the playing field somewhat. 85% of my business is from the internet. I meet buyers online in the information-stage and offer quality service. This means I have to work hard to be noticed on the internet. I don't have a big IT department to get top placing with Google searches, but I have wiggled my way up through countless hours of tweaking to be seen.
I'm not afraid to work with buyers; I love working with buyers, and this is something that sets my company apart. Service is the word of the century. Provide good service and they will come.
Actually big and small are irrelevant when it comes to what a home buyer needs, and what a home buyer needs is one agent to gather information, process information, analyze information, show houses and do all the nasty work until closing, then follow up after closing to make sure everything is still going surprise-free.
I may eventually become a one-person show. This is a time in real estate, given the amazing advances of the information age, that buyers don't need big -- sellers don't even need big, because their homes can be advertised all over the net by a single, knowledgeable person and a laptop.
Times are changing and small is the way I'm going. If anyone reading this is someone who did business with me last year -- Thank you. Little guys can win, if they try hard.
